  • Submitted by: Kenneth Gibson, Cunninghame North, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 16 June 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-00407

That the Parliament celebrates and congratulates the Community of Arran Seabed Trust (COAST) on its 25th anniversary; is aware that, during the 25 years that COAST has been in existence, it has energetically campaigned for the sustainable management of the waters of the Clyde, around Arran, and has highlighted the important part that marine conservation plays in carbon capture and slowing global warming; notes that COAST volunteers were instrumental in creating Scotland’s only community-led No Take Zone in 2008, and in instigating the creation of the 280 km2 South Arran Marine Protected Area (MPA) in 2016; recognises that COAST continues to be one of Scotland's foremost community-led and award-winning marine conservation groups; understands that COAST will continue to campaign over the coming years, to fully realise the benefits of regenerating the marine environment, as well as investing in phase two of COAST’s Discovery Centre, linking it to marine outreach initiatives, both on land and at sea, and wishes everyone involved with COAST all the best in their future endeavours.
