White-tailed Sea Eagles Return to Loch Lomond

  • Submitted by: Pam Gosal, West Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 14 June 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-00373

That the Parliament welcomes the return of white-tailed sea eagles to Loch Lomond, after a century-long absence; notes that they have joined pairs of breeding ospreys that nest in the south east corner of the loch; understands that it has been suggested that the quieter time provided by the COVID-19 lockdown has encouraged their return; believes that this underlines the importance of allowing nature and wildlife, space, free from human activity; recognises that the species was reintroduced to the UK in the 1970s, and welcomes the commitment to the protection of these birds by the fishing community and the sailing and water sports clubs that know and love Loch Lomond.
