Call for the JCVI to Make an Early Decision on Vaccinating Children

  • Submitted by: Alex Cole-Hamilton, Edinburgh Western, Scottish Liberal Democrats.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 03 June 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-00236

That the Parliament asks the Joint Commission on Vaccines and Immunisation (JCVI) to expedite its consideration of the use of the COVID-19 vaccines to protect children and young people from the virus; appreciates that this is not a decision that can be taken lightly, but believes that there is concern among the scientific community that the newest variants of the virus poses a greater threat to this age group than previous ones; is concerned at  reports that the number of children aged up to nine in hospital with COVID-19 has risen to 10, and understands that Canada, which was one of the first countries to expand the vaccine rollout to children and young people, is so far reporting successful results.
