Summit Award

  • Submitted by: Finlay Carson, Galloway and West Dumfries, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 03 June 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-00216

That the Parliament congratulates Rachael Baird, head youth volunteer at Police Scotland in Stranraer, on receiving the Summit Award, an accolade that is part of the Saltire Awards, which marks the achievement of young volunteers and is only presented to those who have carried out more than 800 volunteering hours; pays tribute to Rachael and other volunteers across the country during National Volunteers’ Week, which was organised to celebrate and pay tribute to the many people who have volunteered during the COVID-19 pandemic and who every day help people who are vulnerable; welcomes the presentation of a one-off COVID-19 certificate to mark the special circumstances that continued over the last year; wishes all the volunteers every success in the coming months as they continue to serve those who need support and assistance, and recognises that many organisations in Dumfries and Galloway could not function without teams of dedicated volunteers, who often discover new skills and friends as they take on varying challenges.
