World No Tobacco Day

  • Submitted by: John Mason, Glasgow Shettleston, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 02 June 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-00202

That the Parliament notes that 31 May 2021 saw the World Health Organization launch a year-long campaign for World No Tobacco Day, urging smokers across the globe to "commit to quit" by pledging to become tobacco free; acknowledges that the campaign aims to empower 100 million tobacco users globally to make a quit attempt; notes that, even though smoking rates continue to fall, smoking remains the biggest single preventable cause of ill-health and premature death in Scotland for people aged over 35, and reminds individuals that are thinking about stopping smoking that the free Quit Your Way service is available.
