Welcoming the Announcement of Affordable House Building

  • Submitted by: Pauline McNeill, Glasgow, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 19 May 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-00053

That the Parliament notes the planned construction of 11,000 homes over the next nine years, announced by Lord Willie Haughey; understands the first phase of the development in Glasgow will build good quality affordable housing, which will be available to rent for as much as 50% below current market rents in the city; further understands that the construction and long-term maintenance of these homes will provide some of the jobs and apprenticeships needed to help the economy recover from the COVID-19 pandemic; recognises that Scotland is experiencing a housing crisis, with many families unable to afford to buy their own home, unable to access social housing and left paying unaffordable rents in the private rented sector; believes this type of innovative housing model can play a part in solving the crisis; congratulates Lord Haughey for bringing this project forward, and wishes it every success.
