Equally Safe at Work Accreditation for Aberdeen City Council

  • Submitted by: Lewis Macdonald, North East Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 18 March 2021
  • Motion reference: S5M-24424

That the Parliament congratulates Aberdeen City Council on being awarded a bronze accreditation in the Equally Safe at Work scheme, which was piloted by Close the Gap in seven local authorities across Scotland between January 2019 and November 2020; recognises that Equally Safe at Work was developed to advance women’s labour market equality through working directly with employers to ensure that workplace policies and practices take account of women’s experiences of employment; understands that, as part of the Equally Safe at Work pilot, Aberdeen City Council implemented an initiative to increase the number of women participating in its leadership exchange programme, developed a new policy on gender-based violence and updated its equality and diversity policy to include information on the council's zero tolerance approach to gender-based violence; welcomes these new initiatives, which aim to advance gender equality at work, and commends the Aberdeen City Council staff on their Equally Safe at Work accreditation.
