BT Group Activity Supporting Economic Recovery

That the Parliament welcomes the recent publication of BT Group’s 2019-20 economic impact report, which demonstrates what it sees as BT’s substantial contribution to the Scottish economy; understands that the gross value added associated with BT Group activities in Scotland amounted to £1,210 million during 2019-20; further understands that BT Group employs one in every 220 private sector employees in Scotland, and one in every 10 workers in the IT and communication sectors; acknowledges BT Group’s continuing investment to enhance Scotland’s digital infrastructure, support economic recovery and drive future economic growth; recognises the breadth of BT Group’s initiatives to provide support during the COVID-19 pandemic, from the launch of its Small Business Support Scheme to facilitating home learning during lockdown; commends BT Group on its contributions to enhance digital skills, including what it sees as its pioneering Skills for Tomorrow programme, which offers free resources to help schoolchildren, parents and jobseekers gain the skills they need to thrive in a digital world, and supports what it sees as the positive impact that BT Group’s activities have on the nation’s economy.
