Police Bravery Award for Donald MacPhee

  • Submitted by: Alasdair Allan, Na h-Eileanan an Iar, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 26 February 2021
  • Motion reference: S5M-24251

That the Parliament congratulates Donald MacPhee of South Uist on being awarded the Chief Constable of Police Scotland's Bravery and Excellence Award for saving a woman’s life in May 2020; understands that Donald, a skipper on the Yoker-Renfrew ferry, rescued the woman from her car, which had plunged into the River Clyde, by diving in and pulling her to safety before she was carried downstream; notes that he is a trained diver with over 40 years’ experience; further notes Police Scotland’s opinion that it was "a clearly life-threatening situation", and considers that the award’s presentation is a proper recognition for what it believes to have been a remarkable act of courage.
