  • Date lodged: Friday, 05 February 2021
  • Motion reference: S5M-24068

That the Parliament congratulations the Glasgow-based pianist Michael Biggins on being named Scotland’s Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2021; believes that the competition, which is organised by BBC Radio Scotland, has been increasing the profile of traditional music and recognising rising talent in the genre since 2001; notes that the prize includes a recording session with BBC Scotland, a performance at the Scots Traditional Music Awards, which will be held in December 2021 and a one-year membership to the Musicians’ Union; understands that Michael, who is originally from Newcastle, studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, splitting his time between the classical and traditional music courses; notes that he now performs with bands TRIP, The Canny Band and Northern Company, and wishes Michael every success with his music career and other endeavours.
