Greenock Firefighter Delivers Hundreds of Toys to Children in Need Across Inverclyde

  • Submitted by: Stuart McMillan, Greenock and Inverclyde, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 27 January 2021
  • Motion reference: S5M-23992

That the Parliament acknowledges the generosity of the Greenock firefighter, David McGinley, and his wife, Fiona, to collect toys from colleagues and members of the public so children in need across Inverclyde would have a present to open at Christmas; notes that the donations became so great that David and Fiona had to call in a favour from the local vehicle rental firm, Arc Fleet Services, which kindly provided a van free of charge to help with deliveries; appreciates that the toys were given to the local voluntary group, i58, which distributed them to families across the area in time for Christmas; understands that David organised a similar toy-drive in 2019 but, despite the pandemic, they received almost four times as many donations of toys, filling the van from floor to roof with over a dozen crates; believes that initiatives like this highlight Inverclyde’s community spirit, and commends David, Fiona, Arc Fleet Services, the i58 project, and all those who donated toys, for their efforts.
