Wildlife Estates Scotland

  • Submitted by: Liz Smith, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 10 December 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-23662

That the Parliament congratulates the wildlife and habitat best practice accreditation scheme, Wildlife Estates Scotland (WES), on reaching its 10th anniversary; notes that WES is based on an international scheme, with Scotland sitting second in the league table of accredited land with 1.3 million acres, and has an aim to double accredited land to 2.5 million acres by 2023 and overtake Spain into first place; praises the more than 60 estates and farms that have already achieved gold standard level two accreditation, including the recent additions, Attadale Estate, at Strathcarron, and Ardtalla Estate, on Islay, and celebrates the work that private landowners do through WES to conserve a range of at-risk wildlife, including red squirrels, Scottish wildcats, black grouse and many other species.
