Signing of the Ayrshire Growth Deal

  • Submitted by: Brian Whittle, South Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 19 November 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-23426

That the Parliament, after four years of collaborative and hard work, welcomes the signing of what it considers the ground-breaking and transformative Ayrshire Growth Deal; congratulates the three councils of Ayrshire, the Ayrshire Growth Deal team and both the UK and Scottish governments on the signing and ratification of what it sees as this monumental deal at a virtual event on the morning of 19 November 2020; understands that the Ayrshire Growth Deal is centred around supporting projects in the region that will create new business spaces, improve infrastructure and boost research and development, which it understands will pave the way for the creation of up to 7,000 new jobs; recognises that the deal has a particular emphasis on cutting edge technology, which could see Ayrshire become a UK powerhouse in energy generation, cyber security and aeronautics, with investment into Glasgow Prestwick Airport, the National Energy Research Demonstrator project in Cumnock and the HALO project in Kilmarnock; believes that the investment will also boost tourism with the development and regeneration of the Great Harbour, which will provide a unique coastal destination for holidaymakers; highlights the meaningful and revolutionary change that it believes can be realised when the UK and Scottish governments work together, and wishes the businesses and people of Ayrshire all the best in the future.
