  • Submitted by: Monica Lennon, Central Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 07 February 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-07729

That the Parliament commends Erin Reid, a product design graduate from East Kilbride, on her innovative portable period kit designed for outdoor use; understands that the design concept behind the kit, containing a reusable menstrual cup and antibacterial wipes, is to help minimise health and hygiene risks when there is no access to toilets, handwashing or disposal facilities; further understands that Erin devised the concept while walking the 96-mile West Highland Way from Milngavie to Fort William; notes that Erin’s start-up business, LU Innovations, has won the Converge Create Change Challenge, and the Rose Award, sponsored by the Royal Bank of Scotland, to help women starting a business; further notes that LU Innovations is currently working with Robert Gordon University to further develop the product design, with experts from the Medical Device Manufacturing Centre at Heriot-Watt University advising on relevant healthcare standards; notes that Erin hopes to launch the innovative period product kit in 2024, and commends her commitment to improving period dignity in an environmentally responsible way.
