Celebrating the Retirement of Milton Butcher Alex Cameron

  • Submitted by: Bob Doris, Glasgow Maryhill and Springburn, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 18 November 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-06841

That the Parliament congratulates Alex Cameron on his recent retirement following 45 years of service to the residents of the Glasgow Milton area, firstly from his butcher’s van, serving the north of Glasgow from 1977, and subsequently with his butcher's shop from 1987, when he opened "A. Cameron Butchers" in Milton; understands that Alex has maintained a loyal customer base within the community, stretching back to those very earliest days, and that he has shown a similar loyalty and dedication to his customers, not least of all during the various COVID-19 lockdowns, where he ensured there was a delivery service for customers, in particular older customers; believes that this service often went above and beyond to ensure that vulnerable customers got papers and items from other shops which were required; commends Alex for his commitment to serving the Milton community for over four decades; notes that the shop was rarely closed, even in the most adverse weather conditions, and that his support of the community extended to donating to, and supporting, many local good causes over many years; understands that, when the shutters came down at "A. Cameron Butchers" for the last time on 12 November 2022, it was an emotional final day, and wishes Alex, who turns 70 in January 2023, a well-earned, long, healthy and happy retirement.
