Professor James Miller Takes Up Post at UWS

That the Parliament congratulates Professor James Miller on taking up his new position as Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of the West of Scotland (UWS), which has campuses in Dumfries, Paisley, Ayr and Lanarkshire; understands that Professor Miller began his career as a clinical nurse and that he is believed to be the first nurse to be appointed as a university principal and vice-chancellor in Scotland; acknowledges Professor Miller’s prominent past positions as Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Glasgow Caledonian University, Director of the Open University in Scotland and Chief Executive of the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow, and welcomes the vast experience and knowledge these roles will being to UWS; understands that Professor Miller is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, a member of the Institute of Directors, and was a founder member of the British Council’s Digital Advisory Board; congratulates UWS for being named Higher Educational Institution of the Year at the 2022 Herald Higher Education Awards, and wishes both Professor Miller and the university well for the future.
