The Sorted Project - Canal Boat Panacea

  • Submitted by: Gordon MacDonald, Edinburgh Pentlands, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 16 November 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-06744

That the Parliament congratulates The Sorted Project on securing funding of £191,800 over three years from the National Lottery Community Fund, under its Medium Grants Scotland: Improving Lives category, which will support 120 people in Edinburgh and the Lothians and 36 volunteers; appreciates that the project, Making Waves, aims to "develop an existing project supporting people who are in recovery from substance use and associated mental health problems", which will be delivered on board a canal boat and will provide opportunities for people to engage in a range of learning, training, volunteering, group activities, and peer support; understands that, after many years hiring a canal boat and developing its delivery model, in 2019 The Sorted Project launched a purpose-built modern wide-beam canal boat, Panacea, moored at Ratho on the Union Canal, where it is able to reach many communities along this peaceful waterway from Edinburgh into West Lothian and beyond; recognises that The Sorted Project, established in Edinburgh in 2008, works in partnership with Scottish Canals and also Scottish Waterways for All and is part of a wide network of organisations in the voluntary and statutory sectors, both within the recovery community and the wider canal and rural interest communities, and thanks The Sorted Project for providing opportunities to enjoy being on the water and to feel the full benefit of what the environment provides.
