That the Parliament extends its warmest congratulations to St Andrews University on topping The Guardian University Guide 2023 for the first ever time; notes that St Andrews University additionally ranked highest in seven subject areas including Art History, Anatomy and Physiology, Chemistry, Economics, English History and International relations; commends the hard work of every individual student and staff member at the University to contribute to what it sees as such a prestigious position in, not just the UK, but world education; celebrates what it sees as the extraordinary achievement of the University ranking higher than both Oxford and Cambridge in a significant break from past precedent; understands that this is a feat achieved twice in recent times having become the first University in 30 years to place higher than Oxford or Cambridge in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022; recognises what it sees as the exemplary work and the outstanding contribution of Dame Sally Mapstone in guiding St Andrews University to the top spot of a university guide for the second time since becoming principal in 2016, and believes that this honour will have a large impact on attracting worldwide talent and investment to Fife, and benefit future educational attainment in Scotland.
