Paying Tribute to Billy Petrie OBE, Mr Helensburgh

That the Parliament pays tribute to Billy Petrie OBE who has died aged 94; understands that Billy, known as Mr Helensburgh, was a popular figure in both Helensburgh and Lomond and West Dunbartonshire and a long-time campaigner for the Vale of Leven Hospital; notes that he served as a councillor in the Helensburgh and Lomond area for more than four decades, serving in Dumbarton District Council, Strathclyde Regional Council and then in Argyll and Bute Council; further notes that he was elected as the first Provost of Argyll and Bute, being awarded an OBE for services to the area; acknowledges that he was involved in many community groups and organised the fundraising New Year’s swim at Rhu Marina, and passes on its condolences to Billy’s many friends and family who will be extremely saddened by his passing.
