Arbikie Distillery Pioneering Green Hydrogen Power

  • Submitted by: Graeme Dey, Angus South, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 23 August 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-05699

That the Parliament congratulates Angus family farm-based distiller, Arbikie, on gaining approval to pioneer green hydrogen technology in a world-first for the industry, after securing £3 million government funding in 2021; understands that the highly innovative project, whereby a wind-powered hydrogen electrolyser will heat Arbikie’s stills, has the potential to transform the sector internationally; commends what it sees as the sustainability ethos being pursued by the three brothers of the Stirling family behind Arbikie, whose primary fuel source will become zero-carbon; understands that all ingredients which go into their multi-award-winning spirits are grown, distilled, matured and bottled on-site, and recognises the global success Arbikie has achieved since its 2014 founding and the benefit to its local area.
