That the Parliament celebrates the 40th birthday of the Glasgow Building Preservation Trust (GBPT); recognises that, since 1982, the GBPT has restored and repaired over 20 buildings across Glasgow, including the Kelvingrove Bandstand, St Andrew's in the Square, The Pearce Institute and the West Boathouse on Glasgow Green, while helping many other restoration projects with feasibility studies and options appraisals; understands that the preservation trust originated in the Bridgegate Trust, which was formed in response to the proposed demolition of the old fish market at the Briggait and is now a successful arts centre; praises the GBPT, alongside the Scottish Civic Trust, for the launch of the annual Doors Open Day Festival as part of the Glasgow European City of Culture year in 1990 and the opportunity it continues to provide to celebrate and promote the city’s rich built heritage, and joins the GBPT in looking forward to the next 40 years of preserving Glasgow’s buildings with a focus on the people that need and use them.
