Ross Murdoch Wins Sixth Commonwealth Games Medal

  • Submitted by: Jackie Baillie, Dumbarton, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 09 August 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-05608

That the Parliament congratulates Ross Murdoch on winning his sixth Commonwealth Games medal despite, it understands, an uncertain year during which he gave up swimming for 11 weeks, later coming back to secure his place in the Scotland squad; recognises that he won three medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, firstly securing third place in the 200m breaststroke, before winning bronze in the 50m breaststroke and then coming third as part of the 4x200m medley relay team; recalls that he shot to fame at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, winning gold in the 200m breaststroke and bronze in the 100m breaststroke, having trained from a young age with West Dunbartonshire Swimming Club in Alexandria; recognises that he followed up success in Glasgow with a silver medal in the 100m breaststroke at the Gold Coast in 2018, and wishes Ross well for the future.
