Promoting Active Travel and Climate Action in Inverclyde

  • Submitted by: Stuart McMillan, Greenock and Inverclyde, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 27 July 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-05519

That the Parliament commends the Inverclyde Bothy partnership project for its continued efforts in improving and maintaining local walking, wheeling and cycling routes in the Inverclyde area and encouraging active travel within the local community; notes that the project, which is managed by Cycling UK, has received support from Scotland’s walking charity, Paths for All; understands that the project’s volunteers received training and tools to help teach walkers how to better care for the environment and keep routes attractive, accessible and safe by tidying up overgrown and litter-strewn paths; further understands that the project is organising regular community health walks and cycling groups for the local community; believes that these activities are encouraging residents to reconnect with the nature and look after their environment when using the routes for regular active travel and recreation, and wishes the volunteers continued success in promoting the need for awareness, confidence and care of local paths and wildlife.
