Pilgrim Care St Andrews

  • Submitted by: Willie Rennie, North East Fife, Scottish Liberal Democrats.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 25 July 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-05484

That the Parliament congratulates Pilgrim Care in St Andrews on receiving Dementia Friendly Walking accreditation from Scotland’s walking charity, Paths for All; highlights that the accreditation follows training to better understand the impact of long-term health conditions, such as dementia; notes that the volunteer-led charity offers physical, social, mental wellbeing and spiritual support to help the local elderly residents manage their conditions and retain a sense of purpose and value within their community, regardless of their health condition; understands that the charity organises regular community health care activities and buddy walks to complement NHS services to help anyone experiencing anxiety; considers that the COVID-19 pandemic has led to higher levels of anxiety and isolation for many adults, with an even greater impact, it believes, on those with a dementia diagnosis and their carers, and wishes the project continued success in supporting those living with dementia and experiencing anxiety in the community.
