Invaluable Contribution of The Usual Place, Dumfries

  • Submitted by: Emma Harper, South Scotland, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 22 July 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-05473

That the Parliament notes what it sees as the invaluable contribution of The Usual Place to people and families across the Dumfries and Galloway local authority area; understands that The Usual Place, which first opened its doors in a historic former church building near Dumfries town centre in 2013, is a social enterprise, community café and events space that provides training, education and employability skills for young people with additional support needs; further understands that The Usual Place ethos is to support all young people who were previously invisible, excluded, or at risk of isolation and loneliness, with the aim of helping them to fulfil their potential as valuable, active citizens, contributing positively to their community; welcomes that The Usual Place has received many awards, including being a Disability Confident Leader, a World Host Destination and the SQA Star Award; believes that these awards are a testament to the fantastic Usual Place staff and volunteers; encourages anyone visiting Dumfries to stop in at the Usual Place for a coffee, scone or lunch, and wishes everyone at The Usual Place every success for the future.
