  • Submitted by: Finlay Carson, Galloway and West Dumfries, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 01 August 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-05461

That the Parliament congratulates members of Port William’s volunteer lifeboat, PIRSAC, who were presented with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee medals after completing five or more years service; notes that recipients included George MacKenzie, who recently received his MBE at an investiture at Windsor Castle from HRH The Prince of Wales, Alex Oxley, Helen Oxley, Gavin Lockhart, Andy Murray, Kevin Howe, Peter Kendal and Stewart Gerrish; acknowledges the work carried out by the organisation, who, it understands, for more than 40 years, has carried out rescues and responded to shouts for help from the Mull of Galloway to Barrowhead, Wigtown to Gatehouse of Fleet as well as Luce Bay, and saved more than 400 persons in the process; recognises what it sees as the commitment and the resilience of the people in Port William in campaigning and fund-raising tirelessly to have an inshore lifeboat available locally to assist those in need; understands that they saved five people in recent weeks, including a leisure boat and one jet ski who were recovered to dry land, and wishes all PIRSAC crew members a safe journey in the months ahead.
