Congratulating Liz Easton, Kirkcaldy YMCA, on 19 Years Successful Service

  • Submitted by: Claire Baker, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 30 June 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-05107

That the Parliament warmly congratulates Liz Easton, of Kirkcaldy YMCA, on 19 years of successful service as she announces stepping down from her General Secretary role; understands that Liz has helped to raise over £11,000,000 while in her role at Kirkcaldy YMCA in providing opportunities for young people and that she was the driving force behind the creation of Beveridge Skate Park and the newly-built YMCA Community Hub in Gallatown, which began as a community asset, the Link Up project; further understands that Liz’s career began as a Community Education officer with Fife Council, where she supported children with activities to encourage engagement with local educational programmes, and that this work helped to foster a sense of community and belonging for children who were otherwise marginalised; understands that Liz was actively involved in the creation of the popular and successful senior and junior music projects, where funding secured the building of a recording studio, which has enabled children to learn how to operate a PA system, write songs, as well as learning to play instruments; believes that the success of the music projects led to the creation of the Beveridge Park Music Festival, which ran for over a decade; appreciates that up to 200,000 young people and adults engaged with the organisation during Liz’s service; recognises that Liz’s work and dedication has had a continuous and lasting impact on young people’s lives for the last 20 years in the Kirkcaldy area; commends Liz for her hard work and contributions to helping to shape and forge lasting and positive opportunities for young people in the area, and extends its very best wishes for good luck in her new ventures and for the future.
