Orkney Recognised in The Queen’s Birthday Honours

That the Parliament congratulates Andrew Mill, Dr Kirsteen Cole and Norman Rushbrook on being recognised in The Queen’s Birthday Honours for their services to the Orkney community; recognises that Andrew, Chairman of the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC), has been appointed an OBE for services to the environment and the community in Orkney; notes that Andrew was the first Managing Director of EMEC in 2003, which it understands became the world’s first and leading facility for demonstrating and testing wave and tidal energy innovation, and has over 30 years' experience in the UK energy industry; recognises that Dr Cole, a GP at Skerryvore Medical Practice in Kirkwall, has been appointed an MBE for services to general practice and the community during the COVID-19 pandemic; notes that Dr Cole is the GP clinical adviser on the Health and Social Care Partnership Integration Joint Board for Orkney and was appointed the GP adviser on the Silver Command Board during the pandemic; believes that Dr Cole played an exemplary role in these positions to represent the needs of her primary and secondary care colleagues while continuing to help patients in the practice; recognises that Norman has been awarded a BEM for services to the arts and squash in Orkney; understands that Norman's association with the arts and sport scene in Orkney has stretched over six decades where he has been actively involved with the Orkney Arts Theatre, St Magnus International Festival and establishing the first squash club in Orkney; commends all these recipients for their invaluable contribution to the Orkney community, and wishes them all the very best for the future.
