Construction Work Tasters

That the Parliament welcomes the Construction Work Tasters programme funded by the Construction Industry Training Board and delivered by a consortium of partners led by Developing the Young Workforce; understands that the £280,000 programme is designed encourage talented young people aged 16 to 25 to join and remain within the construction industry; welcomes that the programme aims to deliver over 2,800 high-quality work experience tasters of employment in the construction industry in Scotland over the next three years; commends that the programme will target groups traditionally not engaged with the construction sector to expand the pool of those gaining experience and insight into the industry; believes that the availability and accessibility of work experience tasters are important for addressing the industry’s recruitment challenges, and welcomes plans to evaluate the three-year project in which recommendations on work experience tasters will be made to Skills Development Scotland, Education Scotland and construction employers.
