  • Submitted by: Rona Mackay, Strathkelvin and Bearsden, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 20 May 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-04475

That the Parliament honours the unwavering commitment of George and Dorothy Crooks in raising awareness and funds in support of The Brain Tumour Charity; notes with sadness that their son, David, a fit young man, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2008, and despite a courageous fight against the condition, passed away in January 2009; expresses admiration for Mr and Mrs Crooks who, with heavy hearts for the sudden loss of their much-loved son, decided to launch the David Philip Crooks Fund to help fund vital research; celebrates that regular fundraising events such as the annual Family Munch Brunch have gathered momentum over the past 13 years; understands that the most recent event of this kind took place in St David’s Memorial Park Church, Kirkintilloch, on 14 May 2022, raising £1,000; delights that Amy Callaghan MP formally opened the event, which was also attended and wholeheartedly supported by both Rona Mackay MSP and newly-elected local councillor, Pamela Marshall; thanks the constituents of Strathkelvin and Bearsden for their phenomenal, continued support of these community-based fundraising efforts and the use of the Amazon affiliate link for online shopping, which has raised a further £3,000; notes with sincere gratitude that Mr and Mrs Crooks have raised a total of £55,000 to date, towards a target of £70,000, in honour of their greatly missed son, and acknowledges the selfless dedication of this quite incredible couple as a worthy legacy to the life of David.
