Shetland Islands Council Convener

That the Parliament congratulates outgoing Councillor Malcolm Bell on his retirement from Shetland Islands Council in 2022; notes that Councillor Bell was elected in 2012 and re-elected in 2017 as an independent member representing the Lerwick North and Bressay ward and was Convenor of the Council from 2012; understands that prior to entering politics, Malcolm spent 30 years in the police service, retiring as Shetland’s Area Commander in 2010; further understands that he has been Honorary Sheriff and a Non-Executive Director of NHS Shetland since 2010, and has been Vice-Chair since 2017; understands that he is currently the President of the Scottish Provost’s Association, whose membership comprises of Scotland’s 32 Civic Heads and their deputies; thanks Malcolm for his dedicated service to his local community and Shetland Islands Council, and wishes him well for the future.
