The International Day for Street Children

  • Submitted by: John Mason, Glasgow Shettleston, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 25 April 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-04015

That the Parliament notes that 12 April 2022 was The International Day for Street Children; further notes that the initiative was launched on 12 April 2011 and that it aims to raise awareness of the millions of street children all around the world and support what it sees as the vital recognition of their rights; understands that all UN Member States, with the exception of the USA, ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and have a legal obligation to work towards ensuring that all children's rights are integrated into national law; further understands that The Consortium for Street Children (CSC) suggests four steps to equality to help to support street children, which are to commit to equality, protect every child, provide access to services and create specialised solutions; welcomes this international day to support these children whose rights, it considers, are often overlooked, and hopes more can be done to support these vulnerable children.
