Policing of COP26

  • Submitted by: Jamie Greene, West Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 17 November 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-02140

That the Parliament thanks Police Scotland and forces from across the UK for their efforts in policing COP26; acknowledges the challenges faced in securing Glasgow and other locations hosting COP26 and related events; agrees with the comments of the Assistant Chief Constable praising the police for their professionalism during the conference; recognises that COP26 has been one of the most complex and challenging security operations ever undertaken in the UK; notes the relatively small number of arrests that were made in contrast to expectations; believes that the police have done Scotland and the rest of the UK proud, and thanks all other emergency services and "blue light" workers for their support in making COP26 a success from a security standpoint.
