Point of Order

Douglas Ross (Highlands and Islands) (Con)

On a point of order, Presiding Officer, under rule 8.17 of our standing orders. Parliament has now agreed that it opposes the Scottish National Party’s plans to abolish the board of Highlands and Islands Enterprise. Given that clear decision by the Scottish Parliament on the issue, how will you, Presiding Officer, ensure that the Government listens to and acts on the clear will of the Scottish Parliament?

The Presiding Officer (Ken Macintosh)

I thank Mr Ross for the point of order. As he might know, resolutions of the Parliament are not binding. However, the Parliament has made its views known, and it is now up to the Government to choose how to respond.
