Justice Committee

Meeting date: Tuesday, June 19, 2018

Contents

Subordinate Legislation

Courts Reform (Scotland) Act 2014 (Regulation of Fees) (Specified Persons) Order 2018 (SSI 2018/158)

Tenements (Scotland) Act 2004 (Heating Services) Regulations 2018 (SSI 2018/163)

The Convener

Agenda item 2 is consideration of two negative instruments.

I am aware that there are members of the public who indicated that they want to come into the committee room and, as the public gallery is empty, I am not sure that they are aware that we have begun. As it is likely to be a short meeting, it would be a pity not to let them in now.

I refer members to paper 1, which is a note by the clerk. Do members have any comments on the two instruments?

Ben Macpherson (Edinburgh Northern and Leith) (SNP)

The regulations on tenements and the installation of heating systems dovetail with a wider question that Daniel Johnson, other members and I are looking at around how we enhance, maintain and repair tenements in Scotland. The regulations are a welcome development and I am very supportive of them.

The Convener

That is duly noted.

As there are no other comments, is the committee agreed that it does not wish to make any recommendations in relation to the instruments?

Members indicated agreement.

The Convener

That concludes the public part of today’s meeting. Our next meeting will be on Tuesday 26 June, when the committee will hold a round-table evidence session on professional legal education. That will no doubt please Ben Macpherson as he has advocated for that for quite some time—we will finally do it now. We will also continue consideration of the committee’s draft stage 1 report on the Management of Offenders (Scotland) Bill.

10:33 Meeting continued in private until 12:49.
