Interests

Richard Lyle (Uddingston and Bellshill) (SNP)

Good morning and welcome to the first meeting of the Health and Sport Committee in the fifth session of the Scottish Parliament. We have received apologies from Donald Cameron and Colin Smyth. I ask everyone to switch off their mobile phones, as they can interfere with the sound system.

Rule 12.1.6 of standing orders states that the first meeting of a new session is to be chaired by the oldest committee member—that is me—until a convener is chosen.

The first item on our agenda is the declaration of interests. In accordance with section 3 of the “Code of Conduct for Members of the Scottish Parliament”, I invite members to declare interests that are relevant to the committee’s remit. I remind members that any declaration should be brief but detailed enough to make clear to any listener the nature of the interest.

I will start by registering my interests. I visited Taiwan last year; the costs were met by the Taiwanese Government. I am the honorary president of Orbiston Bowling Club and an honorary member of the Showmen’s Guild of Great Britain. I have nothing further to declare.

I am a registered mental health nurse. I maintain my registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. I am also a member of Unison.

I own a £1 share in Barrhead Housing Association, I am a member of the Musicians’ Union, I am a former director and shareholder of Velvet Music Ltd and I am a former freelance piano teacher.

I do not think that I have any interests to declare to the committee.

I am the former convener of the Scottish Alliance for Children’s Rights. I also own a property that I rent out to social tenants, which has an income of about £10,000 a year.

I am on the board of directors of Scottish Athletics and I am a Scotland committee member of Fields in Trust. I have no other interests that are particularly relevant to this committee.

My wife and daughter both work for NHS Lothian. I am a member of Unite the union and I am a member of Greenburn Golf Club. Those are the interests that are relevant to this committee.

I am a pharmacist and I am registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.

I have a property that I rent out in the Stirling area; I earn between £10,000 and £15,000 a year for that. I also have a 50 per cent share in a property investment business.
