Attainment and Achievement of School-aged Children Experiencing Poverty

Agenda item 2 is consideration of responses that the committee has received to our report on the inquiry into attainment and achievement of school-aged children experiencing poverty. We have received responses from the Scottish Government, the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities and Education Scotland. Some responses are specific to the committee’s recommendations. The Government has highlighted its work on a new measurement of deprivation based on social background. I invite members’ views on the responses and on how to take this forward.

It was encouraging to hear that there will be a review of that measure. We are getting evidence from various quarters that it is not satisfactory now, so I was encouraged by that.

Are we content to note the responses, with a view to coming back to the issue when there is further information?
