PE01808: Remuneration of vital public service employees

Health

Petitioner: Gerald Seenan

Status:
Lodged

Date Lodged: 25 June 2020

Calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to substantially increase the remuneration of vital public service employees, especially NHS and community care staff.

Petition History:

Do you agree that the remuneration of our vital public services, such as the NHS and community care services, should be permanently increased?

Do you agree increasing the remuneration of those providing vital public services will help create a sense of value and attract the dedicated staff required to sustain vital services?

More than public service folk that are vital. I am not supporting this until private employees eg cleaners and security are included.

Care Home staff are grossly underpaid - the funds allocated to care for our old folks from Scottish Government are totally inadequate and do not meet running costs - resulting in low wages for hard-working dedicated employees,

Proper remuneration for the care and selfless dedication these people provide day in day out to protect the health of our nation is the only way forward.

I agree that NHS, Social workers and Care Home staff are undervalued and merit an increase in their income BUT I think the situation in Scotland and the rest of the UK could have been better managed and there should be less manipulation of the data by governments. The biggest mistake made by the UK and Scottish Parliaments was to ignore the findings and fail to publish the result of studies into dealing with a pandemic.

I strongly support this initiative. The sums invoved have already been dwarfed by UK expenditure on Covid-19.

We should remunerate these people properly

If the NHS had been any less capable during this pandemic, the Covid virus would have claimed many more lives than it has done. ALL employed by the NHS and in related public service posts have risked their own lives to help save others - they need to be acknowledged and appreciated with a suitable pay increase, NOT a cut in wages and numbers!

A truly worthwhile proposal

It has taken a pandemic for the Government to release money that it claimed was not available. Money is clearly not an issue, it's time it was used to protect the NHS and the dedicated people who work in it.
