Calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to bring forward specific legislation, which would introduce a statutory aggravation for assault or threats against the safety or the life of elected members of the Scottish Parliament, the Northern Ireland Assembly, the National Assembly for Wales or the Parliament of the United Kingdom and their staff or families.

22 June 2017: The Committee agreed to write to the Scottish Government, Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service, Faculty of Advocates, Law Society of Scotland, Police Scotland and Scottish Sentencing Council. Link to the Official Report 22 June 2017  

7 December 2017: The Committee agreed to close the petition under Rule 15.7 of Standing Orders on the basis that existing legislation and common law are considered to provide sufficient protections for elected members, their staff and family members. Link to the Official Report 7 December 2017
