Calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to require local authorities, under the ‘Power to advance well-being’ provisions (Part three) of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 2003, to undertake impact assessments and specify how, when, with whom (and certainly community planning partners) and on what they will consult when considering the provision of local leisure and cultural facilities and confirm that it will develop guidance to local authorities on this issue which would assist in achieving its National Outcome on young people.

29 October 2010: The Committee took evidence from Jodie McCoy and Jennifer Kerr and agreed to write to the Scottish Government, COSLA and Scottish Sports Association seeking responses to points raised in the petition and during the discussion. Link to Official Report 29 October 2011

11 January 2011: The Committee agreed to write to the Scottish Government, Cosla and the Scottish Commissioner for Children and Young People seeking a response to specific points. Link to Official Report 11 January 2011

22 February 2011: The Committee agreed to write to the Scottish Government and COSLA seeking a response to specific points and to invite, in its legacy paper, the Session 4 Public Petitions Committee to give further consideration to the petition. Link to Official Report 22 February 2011

20 September 2011: The Committee agreed to write to the Scottish Government seeking a response to specific points. Link to Official Report of 20 September 2011 

13 December 2011: The Committee agreed to close the petition under Rule 15.7 on the grounds that the petitioner felt that the petition could go no further and as the Scottish Government has recently consulted on a Rights of Children and Young People bill this should allow issues raised in the petition to taken forward in the wider context of rights. Link to Official Report 13 December 2011 (470KB pdf)
