Calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to take immediate action to protect wild salmon and sea trout stocks from inappropriate commercial fish farm activities by taking action to ensure that (a) all sea-based fish farms are moved away from the estuaries of major wild salmon rivers to reduce the impact of sea lice and (b) ban salmon smolt farms from operating within any wild salmon river system.

7 September 2010: The Committee took evidence from Lawson Devery, Paul Knight and George Holdsworth, Salmon and Trout Association and agreed to write to the Scottish Government, Association of Salmon Fishery Boards, Association of Scottish Shellfish Growers, Marine Scotland, Scottish Anglers National Association, Scottish Natural Heritage, Scottish Salmon Producers Organisation, Shetland Aquaculture, WWF Scotland and Friends of the Earth Scotland seeking responses to points raised in the petition and during the discussion. Link to Official Report 7 September 2010

23 November 2010: The Committee agreed to write to the Scottish Government seeking a response to specific points. Link to Official Report 23 November 2010

8 February 2011: The Committee agreed to invite, in its legacy paper, the Session 4 Public Petitions Committee to give further consideration to the petition. Link to Official Report 8 February 2011

6 September 2011: The Committee agreed to refer the petition to the Rural Affairs, Climate Change and Environment Committee, under Rule 15.6.2 for further consideration of the issues raised in the petition as part of that Committee’s subject remit. Link to Official Report of 6 September 2011

5 October 2011: The Rural Affairs, Climate Change and Environment Committee agreed to take evidence on the issues related to this petition and all associated written submissions as part of its consideration of the forthcoming aquaculture bill and keep the petition open. Link to Official Report 5 October 2011

12 June 2013: The Rural Affairs, Climate Change and Environment Committee agreed to close PE1336 and to continue to monitor the issue, requesting updates and further evidence from the Scottish Government and any other appropriate bodies as necessary.
