The Art Collection represents 50 of Scotland’s artists and craftspeople including Ian Hamilton Finlay, Sir Eduardo Paolozzi, Christine Borland, Alison Watt, Callum Innes, John Bellany, Will Maclean, Thomas Joshua Cooper and Gunnie Moberg. The Collection comprises oil paintings, sculpture, photography, textile, mixed media works and installations. Portraiture in the Collection explores the identity of the people of Scotland or commemorates Scotland’s contemporary political figures.
The display philosophy for the Collection is one of ‘open display’. In other words artworks are rarely displayed behind glass or barriers. This approach was taken to reflect the openness and accessibility of the Scottish Parliament building
