Opening Times

As a result of the security threat level being raised to critical, all staff and visitors should use the public entrance until further notice. Please allow extra time for additional security measures at the public entrance. There will be no tours running until further notice.

The Scottish Parliament remains open for business while security threat level is at critical but please check ahead if visiting for meetings.


The Scottish Parliament is usually open to visitors Monday to Saturday. The exceptions are the Christmas period and February recess when the building will be closed to the public.

Monday, Friday, Saturday and on Public Holidays

10.00 to 5.00 (last entry 4.30)

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday

09.00 to 6.30 (last entry 6.00)

When Parliament is in recess (excluding February recess and the Christmas period when the building will be closed to the public) the building will be open 10.00 to 5.00 (last entry 4.30) on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Recess dates are below.

The Parliament has agreed the following parliamentary recess dates in 2017:

  • 11 to 19 February 2017 (inclusive)
  • 1 to 16 April 2017 (inclusive)
  • 1 July to 3 September 2017 (inclusive)
  • 7 to 22 October 2017 (inclusive)
  • 23 December 2017 to 7 January 2018 (inclusive)
