About the Inquiry

The Education and Skills Committee will consider elements of the Scottish Government's Draft Budget 2018-2019 which relate to its remit.

In advance of the publication of the budget, the Committee wroteto the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills in relation to a number of issues and his spending priorities for 2018/9. The exchange of letters between the Committee and the Cabinet Secretary can be found below.

The Committee also sought views on the Cabinet Secretary's response from stakeholders on:

  • What the Scottish Government's spending priorities should be in education and skills in 2018/19;
  • How the Scottish Government delivers value for money and how outcomes are evaluated within the education and skills portfolio; and
  • How the Scottish Government's education and skills policy and public bodies are supporting the Scottish Government's climate change goals.

The Committee took evidence from the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills on 20 December 2017.
