At its meeting on 26 January 2017, the Committee took evidence on this report from the Auditor General for Scotland and Audit Scotland. The Committee agreed to take oral evidence from the Chief Constable of Police Scotland, the Chair of the Scottish Police Authority, the Chief Executive of the Scottish Police Authority and the Scottish Government at a future meeting. At its meeting on 16 March 2017, the Committee agreed to take further oral evidence from the Scottish Police Authority and the Scottish Government on 20 April 2017.

At its meeting on 20 April 2017, the Committee took evidence from the Scottish Government and the Scottish Police Authority. The Committee agreed to invite current and former members of the Scottish Police Authority Board, including Moi Ali and Brian Barbour, as well as HM Chief Inspector of Constabulary in Scotland, Derek Penman, to provide oral evidence at a future meeting. At its meeting on 11 May 2017, the Committee took evidence from HM Chief Inspector of Constabulary in Scotland, Derek Penman; Moi Ali and Brian Barbour, former board members of the Scottish Police Authority, and David Hume, George Graham and Iain Whyte, current board members of the Scottish Police Authority.
