30 Years of the Pushkin Prize

  • Submitted by: Alexander Burnett, Aberdeenshire West, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 20 December 2018
  • Motion reference: S5M-15214

That the Parliament commends Lady Myra Butter who, inspired by her niece, Sacha Abercorn, and who sadly passed away recently, founded the Pushkin Prize in 1989, along with Baroness Linklater of Butterstone; notes that 2019 will celebrate the 30th year of the prize, which takes place in Scotland, Northern Ireland and St Petersburg; acknowledges that it started with nine schools in Tayside and that entry is now open to every Scottish secondary, and commends the competition, which celebrates young people's love for literature, poetry and creative writing and has included several winners from across Scotland.
