  • Submitted by: Alexander Burnett, Aberdeenshire West, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 25 April 2018
  • Motion reference: S5M-11878

That the Parliament notes that academics who are based at the University of Aberdeen have reported that they are on the verge of a breakthrough in tackling greenhouse gas emissions with their proposed Carbon Capture Machine, congratulates Mohammed Imbabi, Fred Glasser, Zoe Morrison, Waheed Afzal, Fred Stevenson-Robb, Jeremy Kilburn, Tom Horne, Nan Pragot, Roneta Holland and Sen Wang on reaching the final stage of the United States'-organised global competition, the NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE, which has a prize fund of around £15 million; notes that the competition, which runs over five years, aims to find the best way of stopping carbon flooding the atmosphere and changing it into a useful and profitable material; acknowledges that the team is the only remaining European entrant, and wishes its members well over the next two years in constructing a working prototype of their machine.
