Aboyne and District Men's Shed ASDA Foundation and RVS Funding

  • Submitted by: Alexander Burnett, Aberdeenshire West, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 15 September 2016
  • Motion reference: S5M-01475

That the Parliament thanks the ASDA Foundation and the Royal Voluntary Service (RVS) on recently providing the Aboyne and District Men’s Shed with £550 to pay toward its set up costs, including insurance, utilities and membership recruitment and equipment; recognises what it sees as the important work that the foundation and RVS do to help tackle isolation and loneliness among older people; acknowledges the importance of funding community sheds, which provides space for people to come together to take part in practical skills and activities and develop social networks, and believes that these sheds play a particularly important part in meeting the needs of older people, particularly older men, who often do not feel that traditional services targeted at older people are right for them.
