Antje Stubenrauch, restorer from the Archives of Lübeck, examines the Lübeck letter with Linda Ramsay, Head of Conservation at the National Records of Scotland, as it is returned to Scotland for an exhibition at the Scottish Parliament.
The letter was sent by William Wallace and Andrew Murray in 1297 to the mayors of Lubeck and Hamburg to build trade relationships between Scotland and the two cities after the battle of Stirling Bridge.
The Lübeck Letter is being loaned by the archives of the City of Lübeck, with the agreement of the Mayor and Council. It will form part of the Wallace Letters exhibition which will be on show at the Scottish Parliament from 10 August.
