15.05.2017

The Scottish Parliament has announced a new drive to recruit apprentices. The Presiding Officer and Chief Executive with former Apprentice, Mamunoor

Seven new apprentices will be recruited to work across the organisation in areas such as Visitor Services and the Parliament’s independent research centre (SPICe).

First launched in November 2014, this latest round of recruitment is part of the Parliament’s Apprenticeship Programme. This year’s recruitment will take the total number of apprentices recruited by the Programme to 20. Most former apprentices have gone on to find full-time, permanent positions within the Parliament.

Not only will apprentices be able to earn as they learn, but they will also have the chance to work in an exciting, fast paced environment at the heart of Scotland’s democracy.

Presiding Officer, Rt Hon Ken Macintosh MSP, said:

“Past apprentices have made a fantastic impression and impact on the Parliament and their enthusiasm has been infectious. I am pleased that the Parliament as an employer has been able to support their transition into work – with most of them now in full-time, permanent positions.

“We are thrilled that this latest recruitment drive will provide more opportunities for motivated, enthusiastic and talented young people to come and work with us. This is a very exciting period of reform and change in the Scottish Parliament, and this is an opportunity to be in the thick of it.”

Former apprentice, Mamunoor Rahman, said:

“Applying for an apprenticeship at the Parliament was one of the best things I’ve done. It led me to a job that I enjoy coming to in the morning!

“The Parliament is an exciting place to work, with so much going on, and it is also a great employer.”

The apprentices will have the opportunity to work across the organisation, while working towards Level 3 SVQ Diplomas in Business Administration, Creative and Digital Media or Cultural Venue Operations.
